Maximum
Number of Participants: 12
Language
Level required: Intermediate
Course Rationale:
This course aims to cater for both law
students and practising lawyers. It seeks to familiarise
them with the language of different branches of law and to give them
practice in the skills they will need both to study and to do legal
research and to function as lawyers in an international environment.
At the same time the substantive material is chosen to give an overview
of areas of law that are both stimulating to them as individuals and
also relevant to them as professionals.
The four basic language skills of listening, speaking, reading and
writing are pratised in every session, as are all the functional
skills required by the lawyer, from negotiating to making presentations
via advising clients and preparing a brief.
Participants on the course need to have an
English language level of B2. As for substantive law, no
prior knowledge of law is strictly necessary, though participants will
benefit far more from the course if they have already studied law in
their own language.
The
Course includes:
Private
vs. Public Law
Principles of tort
Contract Law
Human Rights
Law and Ethics
Intellectual Property
Constitutional Law
Real Property Law
Competition Law
